Held annually at Domes in Puerto Rico, the Corona Pro is home to some of the best surfers in the world. This past week, team member & family member, Kayla Durden came out victorious at the 31st Corona Pro.
Kayla has been apart of the event for the past couple of years but this year, she reached a milestone as she took down the reigning champ, Alexis Engstrom from New York. ASPR.net reported that the waves were 2-4 foot with building conditions following the finals. Kayla was said to have found better waves throughout the final and was able to take advantage of her priority to propel her toward the gold. Kayla took home $5,000 as the first prize check and in addition to that, she cashed in on the “O’Neill Performance Of The Event” award for $1,000!!!
Kayla Durden is one of the hardest working individuals on our team and is always striving to get better at her profession. Her influence in Women’s Surfing has been profound throughout the Southeast, especially locally here in Jacksonville. Now, it’s becoming recognized globally.
Congratulations on your accomplishment(s) Kayla – we look forward to many more victories in the coming months!!!
* Brian Toth took home first place in the Men’s Division.
